| Comment | So, this is a bit of a blast from the past. For years I lived in the Dutch city of Breda. One afternoon I was asked if I could come play a pick up game of 5-a-side, sure I guess. Turns out both teams had taken a couple of injuries so had agreed to organise ringers rather than both have to forfeit.
I was ours; lightly chubby programmer. Their ringer, I shit you not, **Pierre Van Hooijdonk**.
Thankfully the other team had some sense of fairness and put him in goal, but I still played the whole match with my dropped jaw dragging on the astroturf.
Chatting to him afterwards he was really nice, super excited to meet a Glaswegian and chat about all the places he liked.
Met him a few times after that (his kids it turned out were in the same class as my colleague’s), he was lovely. |
