My mum makes curtains for her big tenement windows using canvas lined with wool blankets she gets cheap from charity shops (they don’t always have them out so you need to ask - Salvation Army on Dumbarton Rd in Partick might be good). The windows are for sure the major heat loss point and proper curtains that go to the floor are vital. But extortionate if bought!
