Very simplistic explanation: Protestant Dutch King William, from the House of Orange, was invited by nobles to oust the British Catholic monarch. He fought and defeated the Catholic King James VII (II of Britain) in the Glorious Revolution in the late 17th C.

Orange Walks are in celebration of this major event in both British and Irish history. They’ve been going for over 100 years. You get them in Scotland, NI, ROI, and even in North America. They’re highly contentious in Scotland and the island of Ireland.

Obviously Glasgow is unique, as we have two football clubs with strong religious and political connotations, and the Walks are part of this. IMO, they’re probably not going to go anywhere anytime soon.
