No worries - I don't see your comment as a personal attack in any way. And I agree with what you say there. I think there needs to be a balance though. I was grateful to have a few teachers in school I could disagree with and argue with when I was getting over the idea of following the religious doctrine they were teaching us as infallible. But that was too much for some kids' parents to take and they doubled down and drummed in their religion tenfold when there was even the whiff of debate about. Sometimes the discrimination aspect of it all would come into play and that would certainly complicate things. I wish we could all be more open minded and teach a better understanding of these things with a more informed background / emphasis on the history behind it. |
