The thing is that King James was a Scottish king (born in England but from Scottish lineage), and he was dethroned by William of Orange (from the Netherlands). And then we have Bonnie Prince Charles who was trying to be king through King James lineage and started this revolution in Scotland.
I'm sure you know all this. The thing is that a Catholic Scottish king was replaced with a Protestant Dutch one. So the orange walk are a "fuck you" to Catholic Scottish people. Of course this wouldn't make any sense in England.
There's something strange that happens with the Britishness of certain people in Scotland. I guess because they are "far away" they want to be more Brit than the queen. It's like when you see Americans speaking about the Scottish lineage. |
