When I was spending some time in Edinburgh a couple of years ago, the ease of the buses was amazing! Glasgow's public transport is seriously lacking!
I don't use the buses often but usually get away with stating the area then paying whatever's required by card so I'm not faffing with change. Sounds like you have't a run of bad luck recently.
