Two places I'd suggest you search for are Gumtree and the app SpareRooms.
Couple of mates used those two straight out of uni and got places with relative ease. It took them both just over a week and because you're more likely to speak with the direct owner than someone in the middle, it makes life a lot easier. Less uncertainty about what's acceptable and what's not.
