This is correct. During the peak times of consumption the grid can not cope. The peak is roughly 2 hours in the evening between 6 and 8, an hour around lunch and sometimes in the morning.

As you are not constantly filling your car with fuel you are not constantly charging an electric vehicle. You can do more than 200miles with a fully charged vehicle. Many can do more. Not charging during peak times is not a massive sacrifice if it even counts as sacrifice. The energy companies offer plans where tour energy is cheaper to charge during the night to avoid charging during peak times. Octopus Energy even has a tariff where if you are not using your vehicle and you know you won't need it, since you are moving around with a massive battery you can push back to the grid to help flatten the curve of the peak.
