I left school with 3 Highers at a C level in 2001. They were English, Drama and Art. At the time I wanted to be an actor but being young and immature I didn’t do anything about it. And to be fair didn’t realise I didn’t have the talent.

Now I’m working with older adults in a more senior position, I knew I’d have to get a better education if I wanted to climb the ladder.

Last year I went back to college and gained an A grade HNC in social services. It’s gave me the backing I need to get into uni. I’ve applied for this year and just waiting to hear back. If I don’t get in I’ve now got the grades for an HND and can go that route.

I’d say unless you want to do something medical, engineering or science based go for the HNC route in your chosen field. It saves time getting highers (as the HNC gives more UCAS points I think) and do it that way.
