The goal was to recover the parcel, and it wasn't a scam IMO, but they didn't quite follow procedure. I worked in an industry where I had to call DPD constantly to discuss missing packages. And I do mean _constantly_, through all my dealings with them I think structurally DPD are decent even if individually some drivers are dumb as a butt (personally I've had issues with drivers paying more attention to the sat nav than logic and believing they could drive up to the back court of another building and somehow get into mine). The claims procedure means that even though the company posting it is liable for the replacement most companies pay for insurance with the courier meaning the courier ends up paying for the replaced item eventually, so there's a recovery procedure because no one wants to send out a new item. So what happens is the driver that done fucked up has to go back to the address they delivered to, it's meant to be the driver because they are supposed to be tipped off about an issue if it's a different person to who opened the door originally, their memory is supposed to be jogged by the location and they have photos of the door etc. So either the drivers that came to your door didn't include the original driver (and they were doing a favour to the driver who was still on their route) or the original driver really was dumb AF. It's not usual for two to go out - but I have heard it happen when the driver cites they're uncomfortable. So maybe the complainant is really rude, or there was a dog, or whatever - I had both a driver and a customer call the cops on each other once (and then I also had to call the cops on the customer too, so fun times) so while two drivers can be intimidating and certainly how they went about it sounds like that may have been the aim it's still perfectly reasonable for two to go instead of one.
