If you work in the West End you don't need to live there, it's got some of the best transport links in Scotland so you can live somewhere quieter.
However the appeal of the studenty area of the West End is the bars/cafes/restaurants. If that's your scene and you want to live in the city then you can't really justify complaining about noise.
