Maryhill definitely *used* to be rough, as it was home to a pretty high volume of drug pushing up to the 90s, but a large part of its reputation is simply that it's the closest not-posh bit of the city to the West End, so it's the only 'normal' bit of Glasgow that incoming Uni students generally come into contact with.

In reality, it's very average Glasgow, and not dangerous at all, beyond a few shitty pubs.
