Glasgow is having a bit of a crisis of self confidence at the moment.

The City Centre has been hit by multiple fires in recent years and then was used to accommodate Homeless people /Asylum Seekers during lockdown(s). End result is that its currently readjusting to having people working there while the previous occupants are still around causing issues. Nothing wrong with a walk round during the day (still plenty of good things to do, eat and see).

I agree re staying in the West End - anyone saying you need to be some sort of millionaire to afford a flat there is pushing it a bit. The area on GW road stretches for miles but is probably most affordable towards St Georges Cross. You could also try the smaller hotels in Finneston on the other side of the park. Some great Airbnb’s in traditional Tenements in West End too.

West End is a big area with tons of subdivisions and has tons of great places to eat drink and some great walks and green spaces. Worth spending some time in and exploring.

You should never have to walk under underpasses etc back to West End/ City Centre. You can get Subway, Bus or Train depending on where you are. There’s also numerous other ways to walk back avoiding those bits around the motorway at Cowcaddens.
