try cycling in/around the city center more, you'll quickly realise there's so many areas of cycling infrastructure that need work. my friend has got a saying "if you see a cyclist cycling on the pavement, it's usually because they don't feel safe cycling on the road"

i used to do trails when i was a teenager, never got a single injury. as an adult road cycling, i've broken 3 bones, been forced off my bike/the road and get punishment passed at least once every 2 weeks. it's way more dangerous imho because there's so many bits where the infrastructure just ends in the middle of the road or bits where the cycle lanes are like moon craters. there's some roads where you're even forced to take a longer route than cars.
