I'm originally from Georgia. If you've ever seen the tv series, The Walking Dead, my parents live in the town that's filmed (although they lived there when it was a quaint little decaying town before it become so trendy..). I was working at Appalachian State University in western NC before I returned to Glasgow (I realised I enjoyed the cooler weather in Scotland, plus my father is from western NC so I decided to find a job out there away from the traffic of Atlanta or Charlotte).

I think some of what has happened is the mixed message of don't go out, you could get Covid and die, or give it to someone else kind of messed with my head a bit too much. Plus as I said elsewhere, my father experienced some health calamities this year and I did not leave and instead opted to take my savings to pay some of his bills like his car and mortgage while he was unable to work (he lost his self proprietorship business due to his health issues).

I am a history PhD student (comparative cultural study between the Scots-Irish of the Carolinas in the 18th century and the 'Ulster-Scots' or Ulster Presbyterians of the same period in Ireland). I'm smitten with medieval to early 19th century history in general, English, Scottish, or early American. Historic architecture, music (classical, folk, bluegrass, rock, some electronic), some tv and film. I know it sounds very redneck-y but I used to go to a rifle range back home, if I knew anyone was into clay shooting I might give that a go on an occasion here. I'm looking forward to the holiday period and the city being decked out in decor and lights...I'm a big fan of autumn and the early winter.
