This is the ideal scenario but unfortunately the reality right now in Glasgow is very different. I work in the voluntary sector supporting older people. The waiting list for a community OT assessment for home adaptations and equipment is months long. I support someone who has been waiting 6 months for an assessment for a ramp to be fitted so she can actually get out of her home. HSCP Homecare (who are responsible for personal care) are currently not assessing anyone who isn't requiring end of life care. It's a nightmare situation: no money, no staff.

SDS is a great idea in theory but, again, takes a very long time to get anything in place. You need a social worker to do the assessment and getting an allocated social worker right now is next to impossible. Every request that can't be dealt with by a duty social worker is sitting on a very long waiting list.
