Good for them. Although the majority of people don't get wage rises or reviews, I've been on the same wage for 5 years. What about people in service industry jobs who can't strike?

I see a lot of people arguing that the directors of scotrail or the council are paid handsomely so they can use that to raise the pay of their workers. It won't happen. If pay goes up, headcount goes down or departments merged.

I've seen a lot of people on Facebook screaming for scotrail to be nationalised now. Yes the director is on an insane amount of money £200k plus a year. But even giving all that towards the wage bill it is pennies per person.

All that will happen is prices go up to cover the wages, less services and when the government take over scotrail next year, they take on the money put that it is. Taxes go up to be able to support it.

Some people believe that nationalising scotrail will make it cheaper and increase wages for the staff. The government will have to manage it by minimising loss, so less services, less staff, higher prices. They can't run it in a deficit or upgrade/improve service while in the public hands until it makes money.

Same goes for the binmen. Higher wages means less staff. The council leader won't take a pay cut, and even then it won't cover any wage increase. All that will happen is Glasgow gets dirtier, binmen get more money but are stressed to fuck by having less of them and council tax goes up to cover it. Then the cycle starts again, more money needed for a stressful job.

Why not raise the National minimum wage? If they are earning above that then I don't see the problem, if they are unhappy that the cost of living is rising but they don't get more money then maybe look at retraining and getting a job with progression prospects? There are millions of people with minimum wage jobs who can't strike, have never had a wage increase and can be fired at the drop of a hat with little red tape. Unlike the council.
