I often wonder if there is some sort of tax reason on why companies allow retail units to lie empty for years at a time and not lower the rent just to get some income.
The unit that stands out to me for this, is the old Tower Records unit in Glasgow at the 4 corners. After TR closed, it lay empty for years, at least 10+ yrs, until another entertainment shop opened up, lasted about 1yr, closed for yrs after that, then another entertainment shop opened and closed down about 10 yr ago and has laid empty since. Prime real estate in the middle (pretty much) of the town lying empty for years.
But all that said, you are dealing with faceless corporations for these types of things. |
