I think that most people who comment on Amsterdam never made it out of the old town, the cafés and the red light district. A short distance out from the centre, there's a lot of car traffic with the main roads being two or three lanes per side plus space for trams.

For some other towns, there's a pedestrianised part in the centre surrounded by single carriageways where the locals speed as much as they do here.
