This was in Australia but both countries have similar work culture/culture in general so I’m sure this will still be relevant.

I left school at 17 and started college doing a 6 month plumbing course. This course gave you your first full year of trade school, making you appealable to companies looking for apprentices. The course was split into 2 terms with the last 2 weeks of term being work experience at a company arranged by the college.

Majority of the class was my age. All boys that came straight from High School. There was 1
30 year old guy who had come into it in a similar position as you.

He was offered an apprenticeship after the first work experience. Our teachers (qualified plumbers themselves) told us our time would come and that we couldn’t compare ourselves to this guy because he had so much more life experience than us. The company knew this guy NEEDS a job and understands what commitment is where as us young boys had to prove it.

If anything I would say you have a better chance than the high schoolers mate
