I didn't mean to confirm what you said: "even if we tried we would all still be dead before it happens". Sorry, no it's not that at all. The 2.7 degree warming modelling and 2-3 metre sea level rise is based on us doing nothing extra beyond what little we're already doing to limit greenhouse gas emissions. The hope is the world agrees to much more to avoid this.
