What do you need to make it a "proper" vehicle capable of going off-road? The main things I can think of are plenty of ground clearance (axles geared above the hubs?), wheelbase closer to body length, armoured sump, locking differentials, elevated intake/exhaust, winch, etc.
I know all these would help, but don't know what's overkill, and what's actually typically necessary.
