Comment | I know someone who hit a drunk guy in her car. She was totally beside herself at the hospital, understandably. The cops went 'we know him, he walks out in front of cars all the time, just go home, we won't hold it against you', and that was it - never heard any more.
Similarly, a woman who I met at the dog park and became semi-pals with, her son was murdered a few years ago. It was in the news. They knew who did it, pretty much, and told her 'look, even if we can't pin it on him per se, we'll keep him on remand for at least a year before anyone even hears his side of the story, then he'll go to court, stay on remand, and we'll just basically keep him in prison for as long as we can'. She meant this as 'well at least that's something eh' but to me the idea the cops can sort of decide was pretty chilling. |
