In the restaurant i work, not enough people paying cash anymore, which means we couldn't divvy out tips in cash anymore without having to take money out the bank account which eventually gets HMRC on your case. If they find out you huvnae been paying taxes on tips then every staff member gets royally fucked.

So we add 10% to every bill now and pay our taxes. It says it on the menu, it can be removed if you like and anyone who tips above it, is reminded that the 10% has already been added.

We work hard long hours in the service industry for businesses that run very tight margins. Please understand that there may often be reasons for changes like this that you are not aware of. These are odd times and we are adapting to get by.
