It's been standard for a very long time to automatically add a service charge to tables above 6 or so. You can ask to get it removed though.

Having lived in London I absolutely despised the automatic adding on of 12.5% everywhere. When I moved back to Glasgow I vowed to make sure I do my bit to make sure that shit doesn't become commonplace here. For that reason I always ask to get it removed.

Also, any tip you pay via card is taxed before going to any of the employees if it's done through normal pay procedure. This means that 20% of whatever you tip goes to the taxman. So if you don't want to pay more tax by doing this, get it taken off and tip in cash only.
