Apologies for hitting out this much used phrase, but it captures the essence of why this is important:

"If you think this is an inconvenience, wait for 2.7 degrees of global warming."

People need to have a sense of proportion. This is a brief conference, happening in one city. There will be local disruption. Massive local disruption even.

But its purpose is to get the *entire world* on track towards reducing the amount of carbon we're pumping into the atmosphere. The future of 7 billion peoole. Comparisons to some cars stuck on a few stretches of motorway don't quite work.

Also I'm sorry, but the whole "what about the extra fumes from idling engines" chat can get in the bin. You hear it a lot when people suggest limiting the amount of space given over to cars generally, but I've heard it a lot the last 2 weeks in relation to COP26 diversions. People are driving these cars, including you. That may be necessary or essential to what you do, to how you live your life. But you can't detach yourself from it.
