Oh right, haha, I get it now. I thought you meant your landlord was charging 35% of the tenants income no matter how much they earned!

It was the same when I went for a mortgage and had to estimate exactly how much money went towards leisure, shopping, phone bills etc. Most banks want to see a good percentage of money left over after payments - less likely to default I guess.
