They've started installing cycle crossing signs beside the green man in some places. I think the future is cyclists being able to cross at walking speed, giving pedestrians right of way. In terms of safety it makes sense to let cyclists pass before cars. Especially when the cars have pulled into the cycle box at the front which is like 90% of the time.
