>capitalism has raised many many more people out of poverty than it has put into it

How do you justify this claim?

Capitalism is the reason colonisation, slavery and imperialism happened. Capitalism is the reason the EU imposes agricultural tariffs on African produce, reducing their ability to emancipate themselves from poverty so as to retain market shares for EU produce.

Which country has pulled more people out of poverty than any other in the 21st century? China. Which country pulled more people out of poverty than any other in the 20th century? The Soviet Union.

Proponents of capitalism love to say it's not perfect but it's the best we have. How would we even know that? We've never tried anything else? After centuries of capitalism we still have rampant poverty and inequality despite having the resources to deal with these problems multiple times over.

Isn't the fact that capitalism requires such stringent regulation testament to the fact that it is not a viable system for the advancement of humankind?
