Comment | On average there is a home match every 2 weeks. Saturdays/Sundays at 3pm. The odd midweek games at 19:45/20:00 hours. Anybody who tells you its unsafe on match-day is talking nonsense. That applies to Ibrox or Parkhead. The areas around the stadiums are so well policed. The chances of a non football fan getting caught up in trouble are almost zero. Because its almost zero for football fans. At both Glasgow clubs 90% of the attendees are season ticket holders who will have their season tickets removed if involved in trouble in or around the stadium. The only time there is ever and real trouble is when the odd set of away fans from European countries come and cause trouble. Trouble often happens closer to the city centre. There has been two moments of disorder between Paisley Rd West and Edmiston Drive in 15 years that I have witnessed. First one was Man United fans in the 00’s. Second one was Osijek fans a couple of years ago. Police were on top of it quickly. Traffic and parking will be an issue on match days. Probably a 2 mile radius of the stadium becomes congested and full of parked cars. The council had plans for a match day no parking event zone that has stalled since covid. The retail facilities about the stadium busy during match-days. Asda etc. If you use public transport then they will also be extremely busy before and after the match. This seems to be where the highest level of professional bams surface. Buses and the Subway often have bucky fuelled neds being loud and obnoxious. Empty cans make the biggest noise though. I mean I don’t think it would be sensible to board the subway in a celtic jersey or walk through the Gallowgate in a Rangers top on matchdays so common sense applies. Fans enter and leave the area in every direction. Ibrox and Cessnock stations particularly busy. Fans will congregate at pubs right along Paisley Rd West and also on Copland Rd which will be busy several hours before each match. Ibrox itself is not an affluent area. Your immediate neighbours will have a greater impact on your quality of life than an event taking place every other week. Be aware if you are planning on living there longterm there are some construction projects that are taking place or may commence soon. At the corner of broomloan road and edmiston drive the large carpark will be getting turned into flats. And between Copland Rd and Ibrox Stadium Edmiston House is being rebuilt and in the future its planned small gigs, events and business meetings could take place there, as well as being a cafe and retail area. |
