I was once coming back from Edinburgh, sitting opposite a startlingly stereotypical grumpy frenchman, who decided that, since the train was 20 mins late in departing, he would only show his ticket to the inspector 20 mins after they first asked to see it.
They weren't impressed by this tactic, and had a full blown shouting match with the guy, and (apparently) had police lined up to board the train at the next stop. Eventually he showed the valid ticket and that was that.
(It was only later that it occurred to me that he could have been running interference for a bunch of unticketed friends further down the train...) |
