Look, if you type an address in Holytown or Carfin into a SatNav it’ll tell you it’s Motherwell because it’s an ML1 Postcode.

That’s the way it works, it’s a navigation machine it’s not interested in Local Government or Town Boundaries.

Postcodes are decided on the proximity to a sorting office and resource available at each centre.

Which is why half of Argyle is PA (Paisley) and half G (Glasgow)

Cumbernauld is a G postcode, think we would at least agree it’s not in Glasgow but SatNavs may say differently.

People in your family’s position are exactly what I was highlighting with this post.

They believe they live in one area when actually they don’t.

As for caring?

If they’re happy and aware or unaware of it then good for them.

It really won’t affect most people on a day to day basis.

But where it would affect people is things like paying an unjustified premium for a house and thinking you get to send your kids to better schools then realising actually that’s not the case.

Sorry if it sounds elitist but if parents had the choice to send their kids to schools in better areas then the overwhelming majority will.

Young families may want to put their kids into a south Lanarkshire nursery, but the council won’t fund it because they don’t live there.

By the way I actually do live in Baillieston and grew up on the NLC/Glasgow Boundary so I’ve got a fairly good grasp of areas around there.

Bottom line is if you don’t live in South Lanarkshire you don’t live in Uddingston

If your MSP is not Stephanie Callaghan you don’t live in Uddingston

If your MP is not Angela Crawley you don’t live in Uddingston
