The local council provide temporary accommodation through housing associations. There’s some hotels still being used such as the Rennie Mac. Then there’s accommodation services ran by charities etc.

The council have a duty of care to get you a bed if you present as homeless and the above are the options. GCC have a decent relationship with homeless charities, particularly mine where different homeless caseworkers sometimes base themselves.

The people who rough sleep mostly do it by choice because it’s all they’ve known or they feel safer doing this. Don’t get me wrong you’ll still get the odd person sleeping rough on occasion but they are more than likely given a bed after a night or too.

A lot of the beggars will have a bed to go to, that’s not to say they aren’t hungry, extremely poor or have a whole host of other problems. But a bed for the night usually isn’t one of them.

I’m in no way saying homelessness isn’t a huge problem in the city, it is. It’s tragic
