I'm shocked at some of the comments on this thread because I thought this sub was quite a forward thinking place.

I think it's risible to suggest these folk are better off than us. I've got a full time job. I earn enough to keep a roof over my head and put three meals a day on my table and have a nice meal out once a month or so. I can buy myself a new coat if I ever need one or for a bigger purchase, stick it on my credit card. These people don't have that luxury. They live a hand to mouth existence as well as putting up with all the shite from judgemental pricks. Why would someone willingly sit in the pishing rain on a soggy bit of cardboard on Sauchiehall Street for, allegedly, £30 a day?

Sadly you can't help everyone. You can't expect members of the public to take on the burden of feeding folk and chucking them a few quid. That puts the onus on us when the onus should be on governments and politicians. I feel guilty when I have to walk past people begging as any person would but why should I? Sometimes folk begging just want to be acknowledged. A simple "Ye awrite mate? Sorry I've nae change"

The way you can make a difference is by buying a Big Issue as often as you can, donating to homeless charities whether that's by cash or just goods but mainly by voting for a political party that doesn't fuck the poor up the arse with no lube.
