| Comment | I recognise a lot of hallmarks of modern human slavery about these situations. Its quite common for people to be brought over to the UK/other Western European countries by less than scrupulous individuals, then have their passports and other identifying documents withheld from them until they 'pay off' their debt.
Obviously, this basically never gets paid off.
We are trained to notice things like people being picked up by flashy cars and taken elsewhere, while the person themselves may be scruffy or wearing old clothes etc.
To be honest, if you see someone who this is happening to repeatedly with the flash car etc I would flag it to:

Doesn't mean you should give money of course, just worth noting as I've seen some harsh comments about the beggars themselves in these situations when I think what is more likely is they are being exploited by criminals. |
