I am looking for a new job, and wanting something that offers in-person working.

WFH is good for the saved time commuting, and great for those who have a slack job which they can get done in less time than they are payed. Great for getting house work done, and stuff delivered to your house, and great for saved childcare costs. It’s also great for that extra hour in bed.

But the thing I miss the most is human interaction, and the change of scene. I miss seeing people on the way to work, having a coffee and vent sesh with co-workers, meeting people in other parts of the company you don’t directly work with. I miss catching up with pals at lunch, or spontaneous after work for drinks as everyone is in town already. And most of all I miss leaving my laptop, and all evidence of work life behind, and looking forward to heading home to detach, relax and enjoy my evening/weekend.

I feel like my mental health has taken a dive after nearly 2 years of working and living within the same four walls, and I dread that first zoom call on a Monday morning. I find it almost depressing seeing the same backgrounds behind all my co-workers sat in bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, or if they are lucky a designated home office.

I am looking for a hybrid working job. 3 days in is enough to get the best of both worlds. Failing that I’m going to be asking future employers to find access to a co-working space. I resent providing my employer with rent free office space.
