My papa used to keep pigeons for years until he got too old. He had a hut in his back garden, but I don't remember him ever keeping any there. There's a club local to him and the members have an area where they all have pigeon lofts. I think my uncle still keeps some and I know of a few other people that do.
A big lorry stops by one of the club members business and they fill it up with the pigeons in baskets before taking them to France or wherever the race is starting from. I believe you pay some money to enter, creating a prize pool, and the winners get a share. |
