I used to live right next to the Royal London hospital in London. It's very loud and I don't think it's possible to get used to it, but it happens few times a day, it is far from constant as a train.
I personally have never been annoyed by it and would always think "I hope they make it". It must be something really bad and/or urgent to be coming in in a helicopter.
