How old is the building? Is it a block of flats, or a 1/2 storey house? What’s the building made from, e.g. is it a sandstone tenament? What type of ground is it built on, i.e. are you on flat ground close to a river or near old docks etc? Has there been any significant construction work nearby recently? Have the cracks suddenly appeared or have they grown or spread significantly over a short period of time?

Glasgow and the surrounding area has its fair share of mine workings. Although these are unlikely to be of much concern, especially for older buildings that have been in place for 100+ years. However, there’s always the possibility of workings being disturbed if major construction work has been carried out nearby. I doubt very much that this is anything to worry about, but if your curious have a look at the coal authority map viewer to see if there’s anything of interest nearby to you:

If you’re really that concerned, I wouldn’t let your landlord or factor fob you off with saying that an architect had checked it and said it was ok. Only a structural engineer is qualified to make that assessment, and I wouldn’t think twice about reminding them of that.
