| Comment | Agree with what you say, it’s easy for people to get a criminal record through situations they didn’t provoke or make one-off mistakes.
The Scottish Gov recently changed the rehab of offenders act which means that where an offender doesn’t get prison time then they only need to declare the conviction for 12 months.
As opposed to the 5 years that it previously was.
But from a perspective of governments accepting immigrants with criminal records I think it’s understandable that they don’t, if they were to go on to commit something major then whoever let them in would be blamed for it. |
