I agree with OP, bike lanes are for cyclists but while everything is mainly about cars and driver convenience on the road, pedestrians/cyclists are an afterthought.

Take that bit under the railway bridge at Clarence Drive, which exemplifies the lack of a shit GCC gives about their cycle lanes and upkeep. Always full of litter, mud and leaves it's far more dangerous than cycling in the road. Then you get shit from drivers because you're in their way.

Cyclists act like they do because they have to think quickly and assert themselves with their behaviour as they're moving so everything can seem urgent and aggressive even when they're just trying to get out of your way. We're stressed. We'll die on the road, not you.

Also, motorists - cyclists can't see you. Your windscreen is reflective. You can wave and gesture and look and yell all you want but your car is just a two ton metal death box and we want to get away from it. Slow down and treat us like a car and it'll be fine.
