| Comment | My mum used to work at a factory in the east end. She was from Ayrshire and went to Glasgow uni. It was her first job after graduating and was in charge of the admin for the factory floor. The men and women working in the floor viewed her as their charge, their responsibility to look after from any nutters or violence in the area. She sorted a lot of stuff for them, so it was a two way street. She said she only ever heard stories but would regularly get walked/escorted to bus stops and they’d wait with her. She’d get a few choice words from the women if she left on her own.
The ice cream wars didn’t involve everyone in the area. But it is like it is now, lots of young men with limited opportunities get sucked in and once your in, it is very difficult to get out |
