Also, keep in mind Edinburgh, Falkirk, Stirling, etc are all in commutable distance from Glasgow. Edinburgh will take 50ish minutes by train, while Falkirk and Stirling can be reached in around 30min or so by train.

Being from Canada, not sure whats your perception of public transport, but trains in central belt of Scotland are very frequent and relatively fast, so pretty good commute option. Sure, they can be a bit unreliable at times, but hey - who guarantees you there won't be any delays on the road?
