If memory serves South Nitshill was literally bulldozed into the ground and all replaced with New Build flats. Glasgow Council washed its hands of that scheme and sold the land to developers. All the houses in that area (leading up to the road taking you up to Barrhead), are a million miles away from the sheer grimness of that area in the 1980's. Social cleansing seemed to be the "go-to" for the council to deal with a bad area.
The houses in themselves werent bad, but the area must have declined so badly to the point the council just said "Bulldoze it". |
