It comes across as a lot more bitter than that, weirdly rude for the sake of being rude from the person at the till and tragic desperation/validation seeking from Cosima. I wouldn't have known the characters were supposed to be having a laugh without you telling us.
Like this whole thing about a woman being ugly if she isn't showing her face just isn't a natural shift in conversation between two women, particularly from someone who works in a record shop and is probably a bit alternative.
The getting away from Glasgow thing I could probably see (although it would still come across as bitter, not comedic), but definitely not the no face on the cover thing - not because it's misogynistic, mostly because it doesn't sound believable given the two characters. |
