Comment | I think there needs to be more places where people can meet to indulge in hobbies. I'm sure there are plenty of examples but the one that springs to mind is Settlers in Hamilton which is a cafe/game shop/comic shop that is set up for people to go along and play games together. Any time I have ever walked by it is hoaching with young folk.
I also used to work in a wool shop and it's biggest attraction was it's daily knitting circles. 10+ people crammed into the back room 2x a day 6 days a week, it kept the shop afloat through the lean months.
As a teacher I find it worrying how many of the kids in my classes report that they just wander the streets at 11pm bored out their minds. That's how most of them end up smoking weed and breaking into the school (twice this year) just for something to do. Find something that suits weans interests and give them a place to go. |
