The Gaelic Language Act 2005 was voted through unanimously, so there's nothing politicised about it. The strategy, as with many indiginous languages across the world, is not to make life easy for its few speakers while it quietly goes extinct, but to *actively encourage* its use and growth to the point where it becomes an official language of the country again.

So we don't write 'Ambaileans' on an ambulance to cater for 20,000 old folk in the Western Isles, we write 'Ambaileans' on an ambulance to normalise its use and encourage people to engage with the language.

Note that the law does not place any legal requirement to do this; it's entirely up to local authorities what they do to promote the language.
