To each their own, but myself and a lot of my peers living just outside Glasgow the toxic environment policy used by GCC discouraging private car use is a big part of why folk avoid the city centre like the plague.

I’m a 30-40minute drive to the town centre, if I want to rely on pub transport it’s over an hour, park & ride facilities seem to get their prices bumped up every year.

Honestly having properly provisioned parking adjacent to where people actually want to visit & not implementing predatory road design seemingly intended to trick out of towners would really be the biggest draw for people living in Glasgows periphery, as it has been in Paisley recently with the reversal of a portion of the pedestrian scheme coupled with the provisioning of adjacent free short stay parking seeing a increase in footfall for local businesses.
