Good to read this kind of thinking. I've got a bit of a bee in my bonnet about the emphasis on household recycling vs corporate & manufacturers' responsibility but there's no doubt the place is a mess.

Used to live in a town where everybody had four re-cycling bins (paper & cardboard, glass & metal, plastics, and organic. The council collected the bins (one type each night), then re-sorted them into what was recyclable or not.

At the end of the year they sent out the results to householders including the amount deducted from your bill due to income from re-cycling. It was really easy and everybody took part. They also had 'eco-islands' dotted around the town where you could leave larger items. People were encouraged to visit and take home anything they fancied - I got a lovely old standard lamp.

Why is it so difficult in Glasgow?
