While that would be an improvement on the existing system, electric buses are actually really inefficient. A trolley bus network would be good though.
As for Edinburgh, it was a shambles to start with but as it says in the article they're being used a lot and they've become profitable even sooner than expected. I think future development could learn from the mistakes of the first project.
